    Electrical Landing Gear Actuation Systems

Having designed and manufactured electric motion control products for the Aerospace & Defense industry for almost 100 years, AMETEK Airtechnology Group is very familiar with the electric motor. In recent years AMETEK has been considering "more electric" alternatives to traditional aircraft systems such as hydraulics and has recently been successful in developing and certifying a helicopter Electric Landing Gear System. The system benefits include low weight, low maintenance, reduced turnaround times and due to its "plug & play" capability, the system can be offered as a post delivery option. The knowledge and experience gained in developing this flight critical system can equally be applied to fixed wing landing gear and primary flight control.

    Engine Cooling Fans

Designed for high performance with low power consumption, AMETEK Airtechnology Group's durable Mixed Flow Engine Cooling fans provide a degree of installation flexibility not generally available from other traditional engine cooling fan types. In addition to being available with a wide range of drive options and potential mounting options, the aerodynamic characteristics of the mixed flow impeller allow them to operate equally effectively in axial and centrifugal type applications. The backward-inclided blade geometry are particularly suited for use in dusty conditions, in that the blades remain clean, thus avoiding loss of efficiency.

In addition to supplying engine cooling fans, to support their customer's engine cooling system designs, AMETEK Airtechnology Group also can show a proven track record in the design and development of complete military cooling groups for engines between 200 & 1500 hp (circa 150 to 1100 kW). Air to air, air to liquid and liquid to liquid heat exchanger, are designed as necessary to meet the various cooling requirements of the vehicle and its systems (engine coolant, charge air, transmission, fuel etc.) and integrated with AMETEK Airtechnology Group's Mixed Flow Engine Cooling fans - providing efficient and compact solutions over a wide range of environmental and ambient conditions.

    Gearbox Cooling Fans

AMETEK Airtechnology Group specialises in the design and manufacture of direct drive fan / impeller units used for engine and gearbox oil cooling. Our fans are designed specifically to suit customers space envelope whilst achiving the performance requirements. Our Fans/Impellers take either an axial, centrifugal or mixed flow form (combination of axial & centrifugal). In addition to the fan, static guide vanes are often supplied to boost performance together with carbon / kevlar composite ducting to optimse aerodynamic flow and safely contain the fan in a blade-off scenario. Fans are typically driven directly by the engine transmission or by using a hydraulic system. A splined sheer neck drive connects the drive and fan and is designed to fail at a given torque to limit damage should the main transmission seize.

AMETEK Airtechnology Group has developed a particular expertise in the design of Air Conditioning Systems (A/C), to provide habitable environments for the crew/occupants of vehicles, shelters and containers. Often such environments require the occupants to operate under stress in a closed down volume, in extremes of ambient temperatures - which, even in temperate regions, may result in the temperature of their working environment climbing to levels well above the external ambient temperature, unless an A/C System is integrated. Such systems may also include some form of heating and often need to be compatible with the operation of a CBRN Filtration System.

AMETEK Pilot Cooling Units provide a continuous supply of a temperature controlled liquid, for circulation through a cooling vest for personnel cooling, thereby maintaining the wearer's body core temperature in extreme physical and ambient temperature conditions. This capability can be provided in an aircraft installed installation, where cooling is derived from an on-board source, or from a miniature vapour cycle liquid cooling system capable of operation in both ground and flight conditions. Such portable systems are optimised to minimise size and weight and operate from either an aircraft 28V dc electrical supply or, for ground operation, an optional Lithium Polymer rechargeable battery pack.
